Rezin statement on Senate passing House Bill 40, taxpayer funded abortions

In response to the Illinois Senate passing House Bill 40 May 10, State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Peru) issued the following statement.

“This legislation is a significant change from a national policy that taxpayer dollars do not fund elective abortions.

“I believe with Illinois’ tremendous financial crisis, the state can’t afford any expansion of Medicaid or state employee health insurance plans paying for abortion. Estimates put this legislation at millions of dollars in added costs.

“Polls show a majority of taxpayers don’t want to fund abortion, and I agree with them. As a mother of four, I am pro-life and stand against taxpayer dollars being used for abortion.”
