Man from 38th District honored by IMSA

LISLE, IL – State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy’s Board of Trustees Alumni Awards Ceremony recently that honored three recipients of the Alumni Distinguished Leadership Award.  One recipient, Sam Yagan, was raised in the 38th Senate District.  

Yagan, a 1995 graduate of IMSA, is a leading “netreprenuer” who has successfully launched, grown and sold companies in the consumer internet sector.  He is the co-founder and CEO of OkCupid and is involved with Excelerate Labs, a start-up accelerator in Chicago which provides seed money and an abundance of mentoring to entrepreneurs.  Yagan is on the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center and serves on the boards of several start-up companies. He has been named to Billboard Magazine’s list of “Top 30 Executives Under 30,” Crain’s “Tech 25,” Silicon Alley Insider’s “Top 100”, and most recently named to Crain’s Chicago Business list of “40 Under 40.”  Yagan received his B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

IMSA’s Alumni Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes alumni who have made distinguished achievements or leadership contributions in their professional fields of endeavor consistent with IMSA’s mission.
