Dear Friends,
This week, I returned to our 38th District after being in Springfield last week for the close of the Fall Veto session. It’s always good to come home. Our district has so much to offer.
One of the things at the top of the list is energy production. I recently had the pleasure of touring Exelon Generation’s Braidwood Station. This nuclear power plant has two units, has a total site generation of 2,354 megawatts, and serves more than two million homes. It is such a fascinating place. It was a thrill to learn how the plant operates, see an up-close look at what it takes to produce energy, and meet plant management and the employees. I am so thankful for this opportunity and for those who make the Braidwood Station operate so smoothly.
Last week, I met with Dr. Roy Norton, the Consulate General of Canada in Chicago, to discuss energy production in the 38th District. This included the recent announcement by Aux Sable Liquid Products LP of Calgary of a $130 million expansion project at the company’s extraction and fractionation facilities in Channahon.
This is a major expansion project that greatly benefits our communities. Aux Sable’s $130 million growth project will create jobs, boost local economies, and make our area an even bigger leader in energy production. We have so many talented people, great resources, and state-of-the-art facilities in the 38th District for energy production. I will continue to be aggressive in furthering our energy production, while also protecting property owners and respecting our environment. Aux Sable is leading the way in all those categories, and I couldn’t be happier with their commitment to our area.
Aux Sable, Exelon’s Braidwood Station, and the several other energy production facilities in our area are reasons why our district so highly regarded for its leadership in energy. I am very proud of that and you should be too!

Holiday Tradiations
I want to thank Dr. Teri Shaw, the Superintendent of the Morris Elementary School District, staff, and the school board for inviting me to their Holiday Open House. It was a blast helping you all celebrate the holiday season!
Judy Baar Topinka (1944-2014)
I am deeply saddened at the loss of our Comptroller, Judy Baar Topinka. Her personality lit up any room she walked into. She told you how it is. She never sugar-coated anything. People appreciated that. Her ability to reach across the aisle to get things done, while keeping the best interest of the taxpayers always on her mind, is a model for what public service should be. She paved the way for women to enter politics. Her leadership and charisma will be dearly missed. It’s a sad week for Illinois.

We all know how perplexing insurance can be. Premiums, co-pays, deductibles. It can be a confusing process. I want to let you know there is a great resource available if you have insurance questions. It’s the Illinois Insurance Hotline. This is an industry sponsored resource that can provide you with any insurance information or questions you may have.
Common questions include:
– What is the financial rating and the complaint record for the insurance company I am considering?
– Is it a good idea to buy replacement cost coverage on my home and personal belongings?
– What are my options if the insurance company cancels my coverage?
– How can I get in touch with the insurance company if there is not an agent in my area?
I want to stress, the Illinois Insurance Hotline does not sell insurance or recommend companies. It simply offers unbiased information to help you make educated decisions about insurance.

New Laws in 2015
On Jan. 1, 2015, more than 200 new laws will take effect in Illinois touching many areas of state government from education and public safety, to transportation and wildlife.
