Sen. Rezin’s statement on JCAR’s failed vote to suspend the Governor’s emergency rules that would charge businesses with Class A misdemeanor

State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) released the following statement on JCAR’s failed vote to suspend the Governor’s emergency rules that would charge businesses with Class A misdemeanor for violating his mask mandate:

“I am disappointed by JCAR’s failure to suspend the Governor’s emergency rules that punish businesses with a Class A misdemeanor. By not voting to suspend this overreach of power, the Democratic members of the committee chose to support the Administration’s efforts to circumvent the entire General Assembly.

“The ongoing pandemic has had a crippling effect for small businesses across the state, forcing many to permanently close their doors. As elected officials, we should be doing everything within our power to help and support their recovery. Instead the Administration has created additional burdens to that recovery, including a threat of a $2,500 fine.”
