Sen. Rezin, constituent testify on bill to help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris), pictured right, and Ashley Lamps (constituent of the 38th District), pictured left, testified in the Senate Local Government Committee Wednesday on Senate Bill 1568, which puts stricter requirements in place following an investigation where a child had died suddenly and unexpectedly.

In an effort to learn more about the factors that may contribute to sudden infant deaths, SB 1568 would require an autopsy to be conducted following the investigation and the coroner must provide any environmental factors that may have contributed to the child’s death.

During Ashley’s testimony, she told her story of losing her son in 2013, and said his death was labeled Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) even though there were unsafe factors present during his death.

SB 1568 passed out of committee and now heads to the Senate for a full vote.
