On January 22 at his home, State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris) presented World War II Veteran, Alex Kaszynski Jr., with a copy of Senate Joint Resolution 25, which names Mary Street in Spring Valley to Harrison Street in Peru as the “Kaszynski Brothers Memorial Highway.” The resolution recognizes the six Kaszynski brothers who served all over the world in World War II.
“What a special day it was for me to meet Alex and his family,” said Sen. Rezin. “To have six brothers all serve our country in World War II is not only a unique story, but it’s one that deserves special recognition. While nothing will ever be enough to thank him for his service, naming a road in honor of him and his brothers is a small token of our appreciation. It’s my hope that by naming this stretch of Route 6, the “Kaszynski Brothers Memorial Highway,” their story of service will live on forever.”
Peru Mayor Scott Harl and Spring Valley Mayor Walt Marini were also in attendance today. A formal road-naming ceremony will be held in the near future.

Five of the brothers served in the U.S. Army during World War II: Bernard, Florian, Thaddeus, Alex Jr., and Richard. Their other brother, Chester, served with the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Alex Kaszynski Jr. was the only brother who was seriously wounded in action in the Philippines and was awarded The Purple Heart.
