Rezin encourages legislative leaders to call lawmakers back to Springfield to address critical issues

State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris) is echoing calls from Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady, encouraging Governor J.B. Pritzker, Senate President Don Harmon and House Speaker Michael Madigan to call for the return of lawmakers to Springfield to tackle critical issues.

“I believe that legislators can return to Springfield to conduct business while following proper social distancing and safety guidelines,” said Sen. Rezin. “We have several essential items that need to be taken care of this spring, including passing a bipartisan amendment that would create fair legislative maps in our state, and addressing COVID-19 related issues.”

Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 18 (SJRCA18), co-sponsored by Sen. Rezin and 30 other Senators from both parties, would remove sitting lawmakers from Illinois’ legislative map-drawing process.

“Time is running out for us to pass something that would allow our residents the chance to choose for themselves if they would rather have an independent commission draw their legislative district or a politician,” said Sen. Rezin.
