Ag leaders discuss issues impacting farmers
In an effort to encourage dialogue about agricultural issues between State Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) and leaders in the ag community, Rezin hosted an Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting on Monday, April 29 in Morris at the Grundy County Farm Bureau.
The group, which was comprised of farmers, farm bureau representatives, and other leaders in the agricultural field, discussed ways Illinois could better support farmers.
“It’s so important that I host this forum with experts from the community,” said Sen. Rezin. “These are people that have first-hand knowledge of the issues, and I’m so fortunate to have them to advise me on what they are seeing and experiencing in the agriculture community.”
Monday’s meeting began with a brief welcome by Sen. Rezin, and then remarks were given by John Sullivan, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, who gave an agriculture update, and Tom Heinold, chief of operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who discussed the upcoming closers of multiple locks along the Illinois Waterway. The meeting ended with a roundtable discussion among all attendees.
